In the debate between wether water shortage or water pollution, water pollution is worse because there is plenty of water on Earth, yet there is barely any water available to drink. There is 1 % of fresh water is accessible to most human beings. The problem is that there are 6.4 billion people on this Earth and water, an essential source of life, is being taken away from most of them by big corporations like Suez and nestle. Many people around the world unfortunately do not have clean water to drink and become sick by drinking the only water source available to them; many of the ponds, rivers, or lakes that are around for people to drink or bath from may be contaminated with disease or even fecal matter. Though water shortage is a large problem in the world, water pollution is a more pressing problem because without fresh water and the resources to freshen the water many people will end up dying in the very near future. 3.575 million people die from water born diseases each year; however, the sad fact is that most of those diseases are curable. Because water is such a valuable resource everyone has to pay for their water, yet many people in poorer countries do not have enough resources to pay for their water and are forced into drinking the contaminated water that makes them sick. 1 out of every 8 people lack safe drinking water and people living in poor areas often pay more for their water than the richer people living in their same community. Water should be a clean, available resource to everyone, yet many people are suffering due to the unsafe water that is available to them.
I agree that water pollution is a more important issue because of the many people dying from waterborne illnesses than a shortage of water.
ReplyDeleteI agree because the illnesses is what causes the death even quicker than the shortages. As you said, it doesnt matter how much water we have if none of it is clean.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that water pollution is an issue; however, because of our technology today and the ability of the technology to purify water from almost all contaminants, water shortage is a bigger issue. Obviously there is not water shortage in our earth as a whole right now, but take Los Angeles for example, if we keep borrowing water from the same place and don't learn to conserve more, the Colorado River and Sacramento River will not be able to sustain us.
ReplyDeleteBut then again the more we conserve the more water we have and many places do not have the resources to clean their water and are not being given the resources because they are being forced to pay more for their water by big corporations. I still believe that water pollution is a bigger issue
ReplyDeleteI disagree because we actually do not conserve a lot of water, and if there was a lack of water people would die of thirst. I think it would be better to drink somewhat dirty water than none at all.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your statement. As we have learned many times in school, water=life, and without water, there is no life. The question is not what makes people sick, yes, water pollution is bad, but having polluted water is better than not having any at all. We witnessed the horrifying third world countries who were suffering from lacking water, from having to wait in line for days for a few drips of water from a faucet. Although this water made them sick because it was polluted, they had water to work with. Even though tablets were too expensive for some people to afford, it was a way to make water suitable for drinking. A way was developed by a man in India to use UV lights to clean the most polluted water-- this saved many lives and improved the quality of millions of people's lifestyles. These people explained that without water, they would die, so even though their water was polluted, they HAD to drink it. The UV light treatment would not have been posible to develop if there was not any water to work with. We NEED water. Water CAN be purified and recycled. Water shortage is worse, I rest my case :
